MANILA – Negrense Ceanne Kyle Rosquillo of the National University Bulldogs had a solid collegiate debut. He bagged a gold and a silver in the UAAP Season 85 Taekwondo Poomsae Championships on Tuesday at the Blue Eagle Gym.

The Bago City, Negros Occidental native captured his first-ever UAAP gold medal in the men’s poomsae team event along with Bulldogs teammates James Lopez and Jed Tan.

Rosquillo settled for a silver medal finish in the men’s individual poomsae event after tallying 8.170 points, behind gold medal winner Joaquin Tuzon of Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles (8.195).

More importantly for the former Negros Taekwondo Union-Tiger New Gen standout and the Bulldogs, they captured the overall championship in the poomsae event.

Ilonggo Joshua Cachero of the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons, meanwhile, finished with silver medal in the men’s team poomsae event along with Dominic Navarro and Datu Rayhan.

Cachero, formerly of Iloilo MVP Taekwondo gym, along with Navarro and Rayhan settled for a runner-up finish with 8.235 points, behind the Bulldogs trio of Rosquillo, Lopez and Tan who captured the gold medal with their 8.265 points.

Capiznon Mikee Rose Regala of De La Salle University Lady Archers finished with silver medal in the mixed pair event with Patrick Perez before capturing a bronze in the women’s individual category.

Ilongga jin Elaine Margaret Borres of the Ateneo de Manila University women’s taekwondo team, for her part, captured a bronze medal in the mixed pair poomsae event with Tuzon.

Borres, a former standout of the Coach Flora Taekwondo Gym of Flora Navales, fell short of a podium finish in the women’s individual poomsae event after landing at fifth place.

Another former taekwondo jin of Navales in Ilongga Sophia Marie Tungala of the UP Fighting Maroons also came a spot away from a medal finish after landing at fourth in women’s team poomsae event./PN
