SP bucks proposed inquiry on viral kissing video

ILOILO City – Councilor Johnny Young’s proposed inquiry on the viral video of a girl locked in a torrid kiss with a boy in a bar in Mandurriao district failed to get the support of his Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) colleagues.

Young, who chaired the SP committee on moral recovery, wanted an investigation in aid of legislation. He wanted “excessive” public display of affection outlawed.

However, other SP members were not convinced there was enough basis for an inquiry. They were councilors Sedfrey Cabaluna, Miguel Treñas, Romel Duron, Plaridel Nava, Ely Estante, Rudolph Ganzon, Rex Sarabia, Alan Zaldivar, Sangguniang Kabataan president Leila Luntao, and Liga ng mga Barangay president Irene Ong.

Nava also said kissing in public is not a crime, torrid or not.

Majority floor leader Frances Grace Parcon said playing the video during the inquiry might be untenable, especially if those involved were minors.

Estante suggested that  Young instead hold a consultative meeting with the operators of bars.

Young argued that regulating public display of affection would “protect” youngsters.

Makita sang mga kabataan basi masunod nila. Kalaw-ay nga example,” he stressed.

Aton ina studyohan kag i-define kon ano gid ang ginatawag nga intimate kissing, malaswa nga public display of affection,” he said.

In Singapore, certain places or establishments are off-limits to these, Young pointed out./PN
