Iloilo City to hire 100 more traffic aides

ILOILO CITY – The city government will hire 100 more traffic auxiliaries to manage the traffic in the city’s thoroughfares including in the Ungka flyover that is still closed to traffic and undergoing repair due to vertical displacement.

According to Mayor Jerry P. Treñas, these traffic aides will undergo trainings to prepare themselves for field deployment.

The city mayor noted that a number of them will be dedicated to Ungka flyover and other areas in the city while some will hopefully help the traffic management during the Dinagyang celebration.

Ngaa nagdugang kita? Indi ‘ni tungod gusto ta lang magdugang. Aside sa Dinagyang ta, nakita man sang tanan ang aton mga markets ara sa dalan. Hopefully, this is not permanent until matapos tanan nga markets,” Treñas added.

The city district public markets as well as the two biggest public markets – the Iloilo Terminal and Central markets – are currently undergoing redevelopment. Displaced market vendors temporarily sell their products in stalls situated in the roads outside the markets.

Currently, the city has around 300 existing traffic auxiliaries.

Meanwhile, Treñas noted that since there are still works to do with the Ungka flyover, the city government will just help handle or manage the flow of the traffic in the area by adding additional traffic aides.

Ang DPWH nagkuha third party consultant. Bati ko may mga recommendation na nga i-submit sa Manila. Indi kita ka dali-dali kay ang ga-handle subong ang DPWH central office,” he noted.

The city mayor said that he will also set a meeting with DPWH Region 6 soon about their ongoing projects in the city wherein he may get updates about the Ungka flyover.

Mapa-set ako meeting with DPWH para sa alignment sang mga projects nila like regional evacuation center in Sooc, Arevalo. I want to know what is happening there kag ang dugang nga tatlo ka pumping stations nga gin-request naton,” he added./PN
