ILOILO – A village councilman was shot to death in Barangay Purog, Dueñas town around 11 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 6.
John Mark “Panoy” Pelopero, 40, was the No. 1 kagawad of the aforementioned village. He succumbed to three gunshot wounds to his chest, back and hand.
Police Major Eleazar Climacosa, chief of the Dueñas Municipal Police Station (MPS), said they have yet to identify the suspect and the motive in the fatal shooting.
Prior to the shooting, an unidentified man was seen near the victim’s house and when he entered his house, the former shot him, Climacosa said.
Pelopero’s wife told the police she did not have any idea who shot her husband and why.
Climacosa said the victim was a drug surrenderee during the administration of then President Rodrigo Duterte./PN
