‘Kagawad’ nabbed for ‘rape’ 

ILOILO City – A wanted village councilman was arrested in Barangay San Pedro, Molo district on Wednesday, Jan. 11.

Emmanuel Panongon was a resident of Barangay East Timawa, Molo.

Joint operatives of the Molo police station, Iloilo City Mobile Force Company and Regional Intelligence Unit 6 (RIU-6) and arrested the suspect around 8:53 p.m. through an arrest warrant issued by Judge Nelson Jiz Bartolome of the Regional Trial Court – Branch 32 for the crime of acts of lasciviousness and qualified sexual assault, and qualified rape in relation to Republic Act 7610, or the special protection of children against child abuse, exploitation and discrimination.

The court recommended a P200,000 bail bond each for the acts of lasciviousness and qualified sexual assault cases.

No bail, meanwhile, was set for the suspect’s qualified rape case since the victim was a minor, police said./PN
