Abando edges Abarrientos as Anyang beats Ulsan in KBL

MANILA – Rhenz Abando and Anyang KGC Ginseng Corporation renewed its mastery over Rhon Jay Abarrientos and Ulsan Hyundai Mobis Phoebus with a 100-86 beating in the 2022-2023 KBL on Wednesday night at the Ulsan Dongchun Gymnasium.

Abando, a former Colegio de San Juan de Letran Knights standout, finally broke his scoring slump as he top-scored with 20 points to go with three rebounds as the Anyang KGC stayed on top with a 22-9 record.

Abarrientos, on the other hand, struggled with just six points, on two three-point conversions, to go with four assists as the Mobis Phoebus stayed at third spot with 17-14 record.

Oh Se-keun backed up Abando on offense with 18 points, former Golden State Warriors center Omari Spellman added 17 markers, while Daryl Monroe contributed 10 points in the win.

Gaige Prim led the way for the Mobis Phoebus with double-double 23 points and 10 rebounds, Jinsoo Choi added 11 points, while Lee Woo-seok also hit double-digits with 10 markers.

On New Year’s Eve, Abando and the Anyang KGC scored a 77-68 victory over Abarrientos and the Mobis Phoebus at the former’s homecourt at the Anyang Gymnasium.

Meanwhile, Justin Gutang and Changwon LG Sakers continued their winning run in the KBL as they cruised to an 85-61 victory over Seoul SK Knights at the Jamsil Student Gymnasium.

The former College of St. Benilde Blazers guard tallied seven points, on 3-of-5 field goal shooting, to go with four assists and one rebounds as the LG Sakers stayed at second place in the standings with a 17-12 record.

Jaedo Lee top-scored for the LG Sakers with 19 points, Kwanhee Lee chipped in 16 markers, while Assem Marei and Jung In-deok had 14 and 11 markers, respectively.

Bukyung Choi and Jaehyun Oh each ended with 16 markers to lead the way for the SK Knights, which dropped to 17-14 after the loss./PN
