Tribu Arevalo performs at the 2023 Iloilo Dinagyang Festival Opening Salvo.

ILOILO City – Mayor Jerry P. Treñas is all praises for the performances of the tribes during the Dinagyang Festival 2023 opening salvo on Jan. 13.

“Everyone enjoyed all the presentations – very well-practiced, coordinated and choreographed. Performance of everyone was superb,” said Treñas.

A total of 15 tribes – eight for the Dagyang sa Barangay tribes competition and seven for the Dinagyang Ilomination contest – gave the public a sneak peak of their performances for the highlights of the festival on Jan. 21 and 22.

During the opening salvo, the city mayor officially opened the festival.

For the past two years, Dinagyang was celebrated virtually because of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Nalipay gid ako nga pagkatapos duha ka tuig, makabalik ang ginakilala kag bantog nga Dinagyang Festival sang Iloilo,” said Treñas.

The city mayor also lauded those behind the traffic management and preparations and planning for the opening salvo.

“Traffic was well-managed and everyone was informed of the (road) closures ahead of time. Kudos to the IFFI directors and officers for the preparations and the planning,” the city mayor added.

Anchored on the theme, “Iloilo Dinagyang 2023: Pasalamat kay Señor Sto. Niño”, this year’s edition of the festival highlights the gratefulness of the Ilonggos to the Child Jesus for his protection and guidance especially during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic./PN
