MANILA – Ilonggo cagers Paul Zamar and Clint Doliguez secured separate contracts ahead of the start of the 2022-2023 PBA Governors’ Cup this Sunday at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.
The Iloilo City native Zamar opted to sign a one-year contract with the NorthPort Batang Pier after his playing rights was traded by the San Miguel Beermen to them for Allyn Bulanadi last week.
Zamar, a former University of the East Red Warriors gunner, was supposed to sign with Blackwater Bossing as a free agent but the Beermen opted to trade him to Batang Pier.
Zamar had his best years as a PBA player with the Blackwater franchise before he was traded to the Beermen where he was benched but managed to win three PBA championships.
Zamar is one of the new key additions of the NorthPort ahead of the season-ending conference aside from acquiring former top-overall pick Joshua Munzon and picking up free agent center Christian Balagasay.
iloilo City native Doliguez, meanwhile, made his league return after agreeing to a one-year contract with the NLEX Road Warriors following his release from the Batang Pier.
Doliguez, a former standout of Hua Siong College of Iloilo Red Phoenix, is set to reunite with his former San Beda University Red Lions mentor Frankie Lim, who is now the mentor of the Road Warriors.
The 6-foot-1 Doliguez was a former first round draft pick selection by the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters but struggled to find his minutes before being traded to the Batang Pier a season after.
The 28-year-old Doliguez also failed to find playing time with the Batang Pier and he was later relegated to the squad’s 3×3 men’s basketball team.
Doliguez was one of the four new players in the Road Warriors roster aside from fellow free agent signee Hesed Gabo and trade acquisitions Sean Anthony and Elvin Jake Pascual./PN
