ILOILO City – Citing the positive feedbacks from spectators during the Dagyang sa Barangay tribes competition on Jan. 22, Dinagyang Festival artistic director Elvert Bañares said the eight competing tribes were able to deliver.
“Tanan nga performances ginpalakpakan gid sang mga tawo. Kita naton pagsik gid ang mga warriors. Based sa palakpak kag reaction sang mga tawo, we are very, very happy with the result,” said Bañares, a film director.
He also pointed out that this year’s tribes did not make use of gigantic props.
“Dinagyang is a street performance. As a street dance performance dapat nagasaot ka. Sa subong, kita naton ang mga tribu gasaot gid ‘ya, indi ka panago kay wala sang dalagku nga panaguan. Ginagamit lang na nila kon may surprise sila ukon malibot sila,” said Bañares.
Still, Bañares stressed the need to improve props.
“Kay bisan ano ka nami sang saot naton kon ang production design sang isa ka tribu indi manami, maguba ang overall appreciation sa performance,” he explained.
Meanwhile, Kasadyahan committee chairperson, Dr. Eden Deriada said this year’s competition leveled up.
The performances of the eight Kasadyahan competing festivals were impressive, she said.
Except for Guban Manughaw-as sang Dumangas, the seven others were first time Kasadyahan contenders.
“Ang presentations tanan very unique, colorful…Nag-level up gid ang performance. Paglibot ko ‘ni sa ila, medyo may mga kulang-kulang pa. I never expected pag-perform nila, they gave their best. Excellent,” said Deriada.
However, Deriada said, “Next year, we will find ways gid nga i-limit ang ila props kag mga panels.”
This year’s Kasadyahan competing tribes were the following:
* Tribu Jalaud from Calinog, Iloilo
* Tribu Miniluan from Talisay City, Negros Occidental
* Tribu Tiringbanay from San Jose de Buenavista, Antique
* Guban Manughaw-as sang Dumangas from Dumangas, Iloilo
* Sipalay Burangoy Kite Festival from Sipalay City, Negros Occidental
* Tribu Saludan from Tigbauan, Iloilo
* Tribu Madia-as from Culasi, Antique
* Pasalamat Festival from La Carlota City, Negros Occidental/PN
