ILOILO City – No major untoward incidents were recorded during the Dinagyang Festival 2023 despite over 70,000 revelers trooping to this city during the two-day highlights on Jan. 21 and 22, according to the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6).

“We achieved zero major crime incidents and reduced the numbers of street crimes,” said Police Brigadier General Leo Francisco, PRO-6 director, adding that the festival was successful and generally peaceful.

Francisco lauded the more than 7,000 security personnel, over 4,000 of whom were police officers, mobilized across the city.

“Tourists, guests, merrymakers, and pilgrims enjoyed the festivities knowing they were safe. The presence of security forces greatly contributed to the success of the festivity,” added Francisco.

Site Task Group (STG) Dinagyang spokesperson, Police Captain Julieta Sequio, said the public followed the rules and instructions of security personnel for a safe celebration.

Sa mga tao nga naglagaw wala may naglabag nga nagdala sang mga ginabawal. May mga na-confiscate kita nga lighters kag sigarilyo sa mga smokers pero gin-turnover man nila sa aton,” said Sequio.

An 11-day gun ban was enforced from Jan. 13 to 23 as part of the security measures for this year’s festival. Only police personnel were allowed to carry firearms.

Ako po ay nagpapasalamat sa ating kapulisan, partner agencies, force multipliers, stakeholders, and the community for the cooperation, understanding and support. Basta’t tulong-tulong po tayo ay makakamit natin ang kapayapaan,” said Francisco./PN
