ILOILO City – Iloilo MVP Taekwondo Gym made a good impression with blowout wins in the 2023 Dinagyang Taekwondo Championships held recently at the Western Institute of Technology new site gym here.

The Denmark V. Pinggol-mentored jins stood tall among fellow jins in Western Visayas to dominate the Grade school, Toddlers, Cadet, and Juniors division in the poomsae category.

Taking home the gold medals were Lindsy Lorriane Degayo, Princez Elaiza Doseo, Marian Evanne Doseo, Reyven Ken M. Decolongon, Gabriel Bayatan, Prince Ivan Dugayo, and Jin Saimon Saquilon.

Also with gold medals were Maria Beatriz Santos, Eujean Ivanka Castete, Jose Enrico Chan, Gian Pomperada, Joal Zebediah Rafols, Sheine Nicole De Asis, Cian Veddant Alonday, and Jhed Anthony Morata.

For their golden finishes, Pinggol’s taekwondo stable received the overall championship trophies in the Grade school and Toddlers division of the kyorugi category.

Pinggol said that the two-day taekwondo tournament can be considered as a record-breaking event due to the number of participants that competed across the region.

“For this year, this was our baseline for this year’s Iloilo MVP,” Pinggol said. “I’m very happy that even though we made some relaxing breaks, we still had a very good outcome.”

“For me, it’s overwhelming because for the last four events last year, we got the championship titles in both Kyorugi and Poomsae. They are still able to stand up and maintain the same result,” he added.

Pinggol also give credit to the players for their non-stop push on improving their skills, to his assistant coaches for helping in guiding the players and the parents of the players for their support.

“As head coach, I’m thankful for the hard work of the players, coaches and solid support of the parents,” Pinggol said. “We will not stop here, as we will continue to improve and keep winning more.”/PN
