ANTIQUE – Gov. Rhodora J. Cadiao has given the National Housing Authority (NHA) until December 2023 to finish repairing the housing project in Barangay Lugta, Laua-an town.
Cadiao said the 770 housing units should be fit for occupancy by Antiqueños who lost their homes to Severe Tropical Storm “Paeng” in October 2022.
The housing units were originally intended for victims of Super Typhoon “Yolanda” in 2013. However, the local government unit (LGU) of Laua-an refused to accept the units from the NHA when they were completed in 2017 due to flooding problems and incomplete facilities at the site.
During an aerial inspection on Nov. 8, 2022, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. tasked Cadiao to coordinate with the NHA to finish the said project.
In response, the Antique provincial government shelled out P10 million for repairs and improvements. The project contractor also pledged P2 million to address the flooding issue.
Cadiao met with NHA Region 6 manager Engr. Rizalino Cabahug, Mayor Aser Baladjay of Laua-an, and Sangguniang Panlalawigan members Atty. Emmanuel Palacios Jr., Pio Jessielito Sumande and Karmila Rose Dimamay to inspect the relocation site and housing units and plan the next steps. (With a report from PIO LAVEGA, Province of Antique)/PN
