ILOILO City – Mayor Jerry P. Treñas has called for a special meeting with members of the committee on infrastructure of the Regional Development Council (RDC) to discuss updates about Ungka and Aganan flyovers in Pavia, Iloilo and other big-ticket projects in Western Visayas.

Treñas, who chairs the said committee, invited the officials of the National Irrigation Authority (NIA) Region 6 and Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Region 6 to present status reports.

“As the chair of the Infrastructure Committee of the Regional Development Council, I have called for a meeting…so we will know what their plans are to address the flyover affecting our commuters. I hope we could be able to provide solutions to this problem as fast as possible,” said Treñas.

The special meeting on Monday at 1:30 p.m. will be held at the Jalaur Conference Room of the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) 6 here.

As of Feb. 7, based on the report of Engr. Jose Cloyd P. Grecia and Tech Support Staff Arnaldo Recodo II of the City Engineer’s Office (CEO), the activities that are still ongoing are the two-lane road widening on both sides with target date of completion on Feb. 14, installation of storm drains, and repair of defective road surface.

Report also showed that the application of grout (jet grouting) for piers 4, 5 and 6 have already been completed while soil penetration test on all 16 piers at 50-meter depth was expected to be completed yesterday.

Furthermore, the steel shoring on piers 4, 5 and 6 have already been removed and no vertical displacement was observed.

Meanwhile, aside from the Ungka flyover, other flagship infrastructure projects in the region with implementation concerns are the Jalaur River Multi-purpose Project (JRMP) II, Panay River Basin Integrated Development  Project and Cogon Hamulauon Floodway Project./PN
