AKLAN – The Department of Tourism (DOT) Region 6 has challenged local government units (LGUs) and tourism stakeholders in this province to introduce local attractions to tourists and entice them back for more.

DOT-6 director Crisanta Marlene Rodriquez said they are pushing tourism products to maximize the potentials of tourism destinations in Western Visayas.

“We have to align our tourism programs para maging stronger ang tourism products in mainland Aklan. It is challenge for all of us na maipakilala ang kanya-kanyang lugar,” she added.

She said the DOT vows equal tourism opportunities in Aklan to spur the economy and travel industry.

Tourism is recognized as one of the key sectors of development and a major source of jobs and income. As tourism demand continues to rise, DOT takes new challenges to feature emerging attractions in the province.

“DOT will provide technical assistance to help identify and assess tourism products that the LGUs want to promote. We are also assisting the province in its tourism development plan which would highlight the tourism products,” she stressed.

According to World Tourism Organization, tourism product is “a combination of tangible and intangible elements, such as natural, cultural and man-made resources, attractions, facilities, services and activities around a specific center of interest which represents the core of the destination marketing mix and creates an overall visitor experience including emotional aspects for the potential customers.”/PN
