Marcos expected to inaugurate Buhang flyover

ILOILO City – President Ferdinand “Bongbong”Marcos Jr. is expected to lead the inauguration of the Buhang flyover in Barangay Buhang, Jaro district.

According to Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Region 6 director Nerie Bueno, they plan to hold the inauguration this April.

“We listed (Buhang flyover) as one of our high-impact projects in Region 6 to be inaugurated by the President. Kasi the Office of the President year-round asks all regional offices to list projects that have high impact na puede naman puntahan ng President for the inauguration,” said Bueno.

A high-impact project, explained Bueno, is one that could provide significant benefits and services to the public regardless of funding.

With this, the DPWH-6 will send an invitation to the President for the said inauguration, planned after project contractor F. Gurrea Construction Inc. committed to open the flyover to the public in March.

The remaining work left includes the flyover’s approach fronting coastal road in Barangay Balabago, Jaro and some painting.

Buhang flyover has two lanes, a length of 340 linear meters and width of 10.34 meters. It was implemented by the Iloilo City District Engineering Office (ICDEO) under DPWH-6.

According to DPWH-6 assistant director Jose Al Fruto, the DPWH central office budgeted more than P300 million for the flyover’s completion.

Construction began in late 2020 and is supposed to be completed by the end of 2022.

However, due to several weather disturbances that hit the region throughout the period, the contractor had difficulty sourcing quarry materials.

With the flyover soon passable, motorists will no longer experience heavy traffic along the Barangay Buhang area.

Private vehicles can use the flyover if they are going to Pavia or Barangay Balabago direction, he said.

Kon mag-shorten ang travel time, so magadugang ang productivity naton, we become more efficient,” added Fruto./PN
