ILOILO City – The city government here is preparing for possible water rationing due to low water supply in summer.
According to Mayor Jerry P. Treñas, he is set to discuss the matter with the city’s major water distributor – Metro Pacific Iloilo Water (MPIW), a joint venture company of Metro Pacific Water (MPW) and the Metro Iloilo Water District (MIWD).
The city mayor cited the result of a survey that as the months of April and May approach, the supply of water in the city is also depleting.
If this happens, Treñas said a possible water rationing may be carried out by the MPIW.
“Pungkuan ta upod sa Metro Pacific because that will be part of their services ang additional water para sa summer,” said Treñas.
He also noted that he has coordinated with MPW president and CEO Rogelio “Babes” Singson, former Public Works secretary, relative to the plan to source out water from the Jalaur River Multi-purpose Project (JRMP) II, the biggest dam outside Luzon located in Calinog, Iloilo.
Treñas, as chairman of the Committee on Infrastructure of the Regional Development Council (RDC) Region 6, also brought this up during their meeting on Monday, Feb. 13.
“May schedule man makadto si Secretary Babes sa office sang NIA (National Irrigation Administration) para ma-istorya na sila about sa water rights. Kay daw ga-apply na sila water rights para nga kakuha tubi ang aton nga MIWD sa Jalaur. But that will happen in 2025,” Treñas said.
In the meantime, he said the MPIW has finalized the establishment of a desalination plant in this city – one of their big investments./PN
