ILOILO City – Highlighting the significant role of leaders in teacher education institutions, West Visayas State University (WVSU) president Dr. Joselito Villaruz presented the results of the research, “Leadership Configurations, and the Transformation of Philippine Teacher Education Institutions: An Exploratory Study” during a teacher education research forum on Feb. 13, 2023 at the Philippine Normal University in Taft Avenue, Manila.

Policy contexts based on the results were advanced to policymakers with the recommendations gaining the attention of the representative of Baguio congressman Mark Go in the person of Charice Go, who said that the study gave them insights on how policies on education should be written based on the needs of different teacher education Institutions.

This is one of the three-part scoping studies funded by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) wherein the results were presented during “Padayon: Philippine Pre-service Teacher Education Research Forum” conducted at the Philippine Normal University. The other two studies were conducted by the University of Southeastern Philippines and Cebu Normal University.

Dr. Villaruz led the WVSU research team composed of Dr. Ma. Asuncion Christine Dequilla, Dr. Antoniette Cortez, Dr. Ricky Magno, Dr. Roberto Sagge Jr., Dr. Amabel Siason, Dr. Rosemarie Felimon, and Ms. Joanna Ferrer. The team was mentored by Dr. Purita Bilbao, Dr. Edizon Fermin, and Dr. Eufracio Abaya.

More CHED-funded research papers may be expected as CHED Chairman De Vera suggested possible studies on finding best practices of high-performing teacher education institutions in the teacher licensure examination and in-depth studies on graduates who failed the exam./PN
