OPAV to bring programs, projects closer to Ilonggos

ILOILO – The Office of the Presidential Assistant for the Visayas (OPAV) aims for Western Visayas to avail faster of the programs and projects under the administration of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

This was committed by OPAV assistant secretary Mark Peter M. Quilaneta (on behalf of Undersecretary Terence Calatrava, the new presidential assistant for the Visayas) during his courtesy call to Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. yesterday morning.

Quilaneta said the purpose of their visit was to make sure that the national government’s programs and projects, channeled through local government units (LGUs), reached the Ilonggos.

The OPAV also looked into problems that LGUs encountered in implementing programs and projects.

Explained Quilaneta, Calatrava wanted to identify choke points in the delays in implementation, if any, for them to come up with solutions.

He also disclosed that aside from infrastructure, the government has soft programs like medical assistance, which began to rollout last year.

Furthermore, the OPAV hopes to have a functional satellite office in Mandurriao district. It would be managed by an appointed regional coordinator.

The OPAV team also paid a courtesy visit yesterday to Mayor Jerry Treñas. They will also visit the provinces of Antique, Capiz and Aklan.

The team first visited Bacolod City and Negros Occidental./PN
