ILOILO City – The Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) passed a resolution urging the City Health Office (CHO) and City Legal Office (CLO) to strictly implement the Free Potable Service Water Ordinance.
Regulation Ordinance No. 2018-051 requires restaurants and food outlets in the city to serve free potable water to their customers. It was passed on March 27, 2018 to provide city residents access to free, safe and clean service water in all restaurants and food outlets.
However, there have been reports that, five years after the passage of the ordinance, some food establishments still do not provide free potable service water.
“It was also reported that virtually no restaurant or food establishment has complied with Section 4.2 of the ordinance requiring the same to post a signage of “Free Service Water” on a conspicuous place inside the premises of the establishment,” read part of the resolution.
With this, the SP wants the CHO and CLO to strictly implement the ordinance, authored by Councilor Ely Estante, especially its provisions requiring the posting of signage and conduct of regular monitoring activities./PN
