ILOILO – A modernized jeepney plying the Leon-Iloilo City route turned on its side, injuring 12 individuals in Barangay 1, San Miguel, Iloilo at around 6:50 a.m. on Saturday, March 11.
Driver Gerald Tumale, 41, of Barangay Panginman, Leon, Iloilo was injured.
Also sustaining minor injuries were passengers Mara Mae Calugas, Nomito Lucero, Ronel Umadhay, Flory Mae Cañas, Rotsen Alias, Eden Jane Janaban, Jan Michael Lustina, Rebbeca Guay, Patricia Lyn Piosca, Josefina Alsaga, and Elizabeth Jordan.
Police Senior Master Sergeant Glen Gasapo of the San Miguel Municipal Police Station (MPS) said the modernized jeepney suddenly applied brakes after a dump truck it was tailing made a turn.
Dump truck driver Vicente Garcia, 34, was a native of Isabela, Negros Occidental but temporarily resides in Pavia, Iloilo. He was delivering sand to a construction site.
The injured passengers were taken to the Aleosan District Hospital and are now stable.
Tumale is being held at the San Miguel MPS and is facing charges of reckless imprudence resulting in physical injuries./PN
