AKLAN – To assess the oil spill and plan for preventive measures, the local government unit (LGU) of Malay, Aklan conducted an aerial inspection on the affected coasts of Caluya, Antique.
On Sunday, March 12, Mayor Frolibar S. Bautista and chairperson of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (MDRRM) Council led the inspection together with MDRRM officer in charge Catherine Fulgencio, Malay Municipal Police Station chief Lieutenant Colonel Don Dicksie L. De Dios and deputy chief Police Captain Kevin Amorio.
At present, Boracay has not been affected by the oil spill but the LGU is continuously conducting roving and monitoring along the coasts of the island.
Oil slick booms were prepositioned in strategic areas .
Bautista earlier ordered concerned agencies to closely monitor the possible spread of an oil spill from the MT Princess Empress which capsized on Feb. 28 off the coast of Naujan, Oriental Mindoro.
The motor tanker was reportedly carrying around 800,000 liters of industrial fuel oil. Several areas in the region’s Caluya, Antique were affected by the oil spill. (With a report from Malay Municipal Police Station)/PN
