CAPIZ – The African Swine Fever (ASF) has now reached the town of Pilar, particularly in Barangay San Antonio.
With this, there are now three towns in Capiz with cases of the hog disease. The other two towns are Maayon (in Barangay Canapian) and Dumarao (in Poblacion Ilawod).
Provincial Veterinarian Dr. Leonel Abordo said they received a report about some sick hogs in Barangay San Antonio. The surveillance team took three blood samples, of which one turned out to be positive for ASF.
The infected hogs were immediately subjected to culling as well as disinfection of the affected backyard hog farm.
Meanwhile, Pilar mayor Arnold Perez ordered to conduct control checkpoints in every barangay to deter the in and out of hogs, pork and processed pork products.
Perez noted that the town has been conducting ASF border control checkpoints since a case was first recorded in the province. However, they suspect that the hogs or pork meat were possibly sneaked through from Northern Iloilo./PN
