ILOILO – As of March 19, 32 out of 43 local government units (LGUs) in the province have no active cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
These were Tigbauan, Guimbal, Igbaras, Tubungan, Miag-ao, and San Joaquin in the 1st District; Alimodian, New Lucena, Santa Barbara, Leon, Zarraga, and Leganes in the 2nd District; Cabatuan, Maasin, Calinog, Bingawan, Badiangan, Janiuay, and Mina in the 3rd District; San Enrique, Anilao and Banate in the 4th District; and Carles, Lemery, Concepcion, San Rafael, Batad, Estancia, Balasan, Ajuy, Sara, and Barotac Viejo in the 5th District.
The 11 LGUs with active cases are Dueñas, San Dionisio, San Miguel, Dumangas, Lambunao, Barotac Nuevo, Pavia, Oton, Pototan, Dingle, and Passi City.
As of March 19, the province registered 51,412 cases since the COVID-19 outbreak, of which 20 are still active, 49,706 were recovered, and 1,608 were deaths.
Most of the recorded cases were local with 49,423 cases, or 96 percent; followed by locally stranded individuals (1,204 cases, or 2.5 percent); returning overseas Filipinos (590 cases, or 1.2 percent); and authorized persons outside residence (194 cases, or 0.4 percent).
The Iloilo Provincial Health Office (IPHO) said the public’s compliance with minimum public health standards and high vaccination coverage are factors in the decrease in cases.
IPHO data showed as of March 19, those who received their first vaccine dose reached 1,377,816; second dose – 1,292,372; first booster – 288,885; and second booster – 24,861.
The provincial government targets to inoculate 70 percent of the target population, or 1,461,756.
Dr. Maria Socorro Colmenares-Quiñon, IPHO head, encouraged the public to get vaccinated against COVID-19 by going to their rural health units or the Iloilo provincial capitol from Monday to Friday./PN
