BACOLOD City – The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) station in Northern Negros Occidental warned colorum motor banca operators in preparation for the Holy Week and summer season.
Colorum motor bancas are dangerous as they do not comply with the safety standards set by the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA), according to PCG-Northern Negros Occidental station chief, Commander Joe Luviz Mercurio.
“Please note that chartering unauthorized vessels or small boats is illegal. And if it comes to our attention, we will apprehend the boat, and passengers will also be held accountable,” said Mercurio.
The PCG will be on “heightened alert” starting tomorrow, March 24, for the observance of Holy Week.
The PCG is also inspecting resorts, especially in Bacolod City, for the presence of fully certified lifeguards./PN
