BACOLOD City – “Taltal sa Cadiz” in Cadiz City, Negros Occidental will return this year after a three-year hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Taltal, or Senakulo in the Filipino language, is a play normally held during Good Friday reenacting the Passion of Jesus Christ.

The city government of Escalante made some changes for the safety and health of the viewers as well as the actors in the play. In one taltal event a few years back, the actor who played Jesus Christ fainted due to heat exhaustion, said Mayor Salvador Escalante Jr.

The taltal is usually held at the Cadiz City public plaza. This year, however, the city government has decided to hold it at the Cadiz City Arena where actors and the viewers will be sheltered from the heat. The arena is fully air-conditioned.

Preparations are now underway for “Taltal sa Cadiz”. The city mayor said they hired national talents to train local actors for the Lenten event.

“Kadako na sang gasto ta, why not add a little more to train our own [actors]. Maka-learn and maka-grow pa sila,” Escalante said./PN
