Antique ready for Holy Week influx of tourists

ANTIQUE – The provincial government is all set for the influx of people this Holy Week.

Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) head Broderick Train said they are expecting tourists and excursionists to various beaches, inland resorts, old churches, and other destinations in Antique.

“Common sa amo dya nga panahon ang mga disgrasya, especially vehicular accidents and drowning, and iban pa nga related incidents nga puede nga matabo sa aton,” cautioned Train.

In line with this, concerned government agencies, including the Department of Public Works and Highways, the Philippine National Police, the Land Transportation Office, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board, the Philippine Coast Guard, and the Bureau of Fire Protection, among others, have started implementing protocols to ensure the safety of tourists.

The PDRRMO also ordered its municipal-level counterparts to activate operation centers to monitor the situation in their areas of responsibility.

“Ginapangabay naton nga mag-activate ang anda operation centers and corresponding response mechanisms, especially sa pag-deploy sang assistance sa karsada, beaches and inland resorts,” said Train.

The province is expecting tourists from Iloilo, Capiz, Aklan, and Guimaras, and even from outside the region.

Antique is composed of 18 towns: Anini-y, Hamtic, Bugasong, Sebaste, Libertad, Tobias Fornier, San Remigio, Valderrama, Belison, Pandan, Laua-an, San Jose, La-auan, Culasi, Tibiao, Sibalom, Patnognon, and Caluya.

Among the province’s tourist attractions are: Mararison Island in Culasi, Malumpati Cold Spring in Pandan, Kawa Hot Bath in Tibiao, Bugtong Bato Falls in Tibiao, Nogas Island and Sira-an Hot Spring in Anini-y, among others./PN
