BACOLOD City – The Department of Education (DepEd) – Negros Occidental has ordered an investigation on an incident involving a high school teacher in Pontevedra town who allegedly shoved a student against the wall.

In a video circulating on social media, a teacher was allegedly seen confronting a student because of the latter’s uncut hair, a violation of school regulations.

The original video has since been taken down by the original uploader, although there are reports that the student’s father expressed intention to file charges against the teacher.

DepEd-Negros Occidental spokesperson Ian Arnold Arnaiz said the incident has reached their office and an investigation has already been ordered.

Arnaiz pointed out that before the Division Office can intervene, an investigation must first be conducted. The incident, he added, was an isolated case.

The disciplining body for all teaching staff will fall under the DepEd-Western Visayas regional director, and a formal complaint must be submitted before the filing of administrative charges, the spokesperson said.

Arnaiz also reminded teachers to remain calm when interacting with students./PN
