Iloilo recognizes top individual, corporate taxpayers

ILOILO – The provincial government, through the Iloilo Provincial Treasury Office, recognized the top 25 individual and corporate payers of Real Property Tax (RPT) for calendar year (CY) 2022.

Provincial treasurer Jean Maire G. Umadhay said for the past years, the province reaped prestigious awards and recognitions, both at the regional and national levels, due to its efficient and highly rated collection of RPTs.

In 2022, the provincial government’s RPT collection reached P1,302,829,649.51 – 21 percent higher than the 2021 collection of P1,073,848,697.65.

“In these victories, you [top taxpayers] played an important role so remarkable that this event is just one way to express our heartfelt gratitude. May we constantly join hands in putting our local government on a pedestal, one comic development,” said Umadhay.

Among the initiatives taken by the Iloilo Provincial Treasury Office that resulted in high tax collection for 2022 were conducting tax campaigns in 200 barangays and holding public auction sales.

According to acting provincial administrator, Atty. Dennis Ventilacion, the role of taxpayers is important to the province’s recovery from the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

Ventilacion explained that for this year, the province’s share from the National Tax Allocation (NTA) has decreased by P600 million because the provincial government is also looking for measures to save, like reducing maintenance and other operating expenses (MOEE) by 20 percent for each office at the capitol.

“That’s why we appreciate the people in this room; I know hirap din kayo, but still, you paid your taxes, and as a matter of fact, you are among the top taxpayers in the province of Iloilo,” said Ventilacion.
