ILOILO City – Hua Siong College of Iloilo Red Phoenix-ILOPRISAA extended their dominance in the Iloilo Schools Sports Council Meet secondary boys basketball. It ruled this year’s edition of the tournament.
The Vincent Conlu-mentored Red Phoenix hacked out a lopsided victory over Pototan Integros in the championship game held at the Western Institute of Technology Gym here.
Thomas Pillado led the way for the Red Phoenix with 32 points, while Ricky Murillo and Karl Nonoy also made their presence felt offensively as they dropped 23 and 21 points, respectively.
Also member of the Hua Siong team are Matt Laurence Acosta, Ken Murillo, Wesley Lana, Adonieram Roy Malaga, Amiel Dominic Dema-ala, Jid Locsin, Rymanuel Montinola, Jann Francis Yu Barcellano and Yuan Reyes.
For being the champions for the sixth consecutive edition of the ISSC Meet, the Hua Siong-ILOPRISAA will be Iloilo’s representative in the WVRAA Meet slated next week in Aklan.
According to Conlu, the Red Phoenix were delighted to have another opportunity to play in the WVRAA Meet, which serves as the qualifier for the Palarong Pambansa slated later this year.
“We are happy na kahit nawala ng ilang years ‘yung ISSC Meet because of the pandemic we were able to keep our streak here,” Conlu said. “We will now shift our focus sa WVRAA Meet.”
The defending champions ILOPRISAA reached the finals after defeating Passi City and Integros-Pototan City in the elimination round. Integros-Pototan City entered the finals by beating Passi City.
Apart from the 5-on-5 indoor basketball, Hua Siong Red Phoenix’s 3×3 basketball team also ruled the ISSC Meet and will represent ILOPRISAA in the same Regional Meet in Aklan.
Composing the Hua Siong’s 3×3 squad were Lance Lester Joseph Tadlan, Tobby Matthew Villaruz Orbista, Ricarlo Samuel Po and Rez Arrhon Camacho Panes./PN
