BACOLOD City – A 10-wheeler truck, in an attempt to beat the red light, ran over a three-year-old girl.

Victim “Venice” died on the spot. Her parents Jude Jett Areglo, 30, and Sheila Mae Niem, 23, sustained injuries.

In an interview with Radyo Bandera-Bacolod, Police Station 4 chief, Police Captain Greeky Cayao, said Venice and her parents were on a motorcycle on Circumferential Road, Barangay Villamonte around 10:15 a.m. on Tuesday, April 18. The truck driven by Jemmy Panes was behind them travelling the same direction.

Panes is currently being held at Police Station 4.

Mayor Alfredo Abelardo “Albee” Benitez reminded motorists that driving a two-wheeled motorcycle with a child on board on public roads is prohibited under Republic Act No. 10666, or the Children’s Safety on Motorcycles Act of 2015.

City Ordinance No. 469 also prohibits children below seven years old from riding motorcycles.

The Bacolod Traffic Authority Office will set up checkpoints to apprehend violators, added Benitez. (With reports from Radyo Bandera Bacolod)/PN
