CAPIZ – For the first time, the LGBTQ+ community took part in the celebration of this province’s Capiztahan festival.
Over the weekend, the Capiztahan 2023 hosted the first-ever Pride March dubbed as “Duag Balangaw,”adding colors and pride to the festivity.
The province, through the event, would like to convey inclusivity and promote equality, acceptance, and awareness of the LGBTQ+ community.
Each participating groups from different towns, including Roxas City, flaunted their colorfully decorated floats showcasing creativity and talents of the LGBTQ+ community.
Each float was complemented by their respective energetic and all-dressed up dancers.
The Pride March kicked off from the corner of Cler Grand Hotel up to the Techno Park, Pueblo de Panay where a judging area was set up.
Capiz’s Gov. Fredenil Castro lauded the support of the LGBTQ+ community to the provincial government and in return, he vowed to support them.
The provincial government is optimistic the Pride March was just the beginning of a new chapter for Capiz for the LGBTQ+ community. It is a step forward in creating a more inclusive and accepting society.
It also hoped that the event will inspire more people to support the LGBTQ+ community and continue to work towards a world where everyone is treated with dignity and respect.
Castro, during the event, was joined by Provincial Board members Member Trina Ignacio and Pepe Del Rosario, chairperson of Provincial Board’s committee on tourism, among others. (With a report from Capiz provincial government PIO)/PN
