Earth Day 2023: MORE Power makes positive impact for Mother Earth

EARTH DAY is an annual event every April 22 to demonstrate support for environmental protection and raise public awareness of the need to protect Earth’s natural resources for future generations.

First held on April 22, 1970, it now includes a wide range of events globally participated by an estimated one billion people in more than 193 countries, including the Philippines.

The official theme for the 2023 Earth Day is “Invest in Our Planet”.

In Iloilo City, the metro’s sole power distributor MORE Electric and Power Corporation (MORE Power) joined this year’s Earth Day observance.

Cognizant of the importance of protecting and preserving Mother Earth, MORE Power Volunteers, together with the Guardians of the Environment, conducted a cleanup at the Iloilo Esplanade and planted mangroves.

“We’re taking an important step towards safeguarding the planet we call home,” said MORE Power president and chief executive officer Roel Z. Castro.

The cleanup was able to collect the following volume of non-biodegradable garbage:

* Esplanade 3 – 21 sacks of trash

* Esplanade 5 – 15 sacks of trash

* Esplanade 9 – 9 sacks of trash

As for the mangrove propagation, MORE Power Volunteers and the Guardians of the Environment managed to plant 200 mangrove propagules.

“Let’s all come together and make a positive impact for Mother Earth,” said Castro./PN
