BACOLOD City – The motorcycle riders who refused to stop at a police checkpoint in Calatrava town in Negors Occidental were allegedly involved in the illegal drug trade, according to the local police.

Police Captain Jesus Alba, deputy police chief, said the suspects who evaded a checkpoint in Sitio Dao, Barangay Lemery were job-order casuals from Escalante City, Negros Occidental.

The two suspects have already been identified, although Alba refused to reveal their names; a follow-up operation is underway.

Alba added that local authorities have secured video footage of the suspects allegedly involved in the sale of illegal drugs in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental.

The two were not in the police drug watchlist.

Alba said they were gathering additional evidence and were planning to file charges for “disobedience in person of authority.”

On Saturday, Police Staff Sergeant Rex Bacan and Patrolman Rofer Villanueva of the Calatrava Municipal Police Station tried to flag down a motorcycle with two riders.

However, the motorcycle sped off, prompting Bacan and Villanueva to board their motorcycle and give chase.

However, the two cops met an accident, thus the riders were able to escape.

Bacan and Villanueva were rushed to the Calatrava Municipal Hospital for treatment.

The suspects’ abandoned motorcycle, a Honda TMX 155, was later recovered./PN
