ILOILO – The agricultural damage due to last week’s flooding in this province reached P7,764,393, initial data from the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) showed.
Here is the breakdown of the damage:
* Rice – 91 hectares managed by 66 farmers or P2,878,893
* Corn – 81 hectares managed by 88 farmers or P2,322,500
* High-value crops – 22 hectares managed by nine farmers or P1,627,600
* Livestock – PP605,00
* Poultry –180,400
* Fisheries – P150,000
Dr. Jerry Bionat, PDRRMO head, said losses may still increase.
Damaged houses have not yet been included – 14 were damaged totally while 31 partially.
Bionat said there were no major damage to infrastructure and there were no reported missing persons or casualties.
PDRRMO data showed 168 barangays in the province were flooded, affecting 12,295 families or 49,390 persons.
Here is the list of municipalities and their partial damage reported to the PDRRMO:
1st District
* Miag-ao – P12,500 worth of damages on corn, high value crops (P3,600), livestock (P500,000), and poultry (P4,000)
2nd District
* Leganes – two families or six persons affected; no report yet on agricultural damage
* Zarraga – 2,562 families or 8,414 persons affected; no report yet on agricultural damage
3rd District
* Janiuay – six families or 37 persons affected; houses – seven (four totally and three partially damaged)
* Lambunao – 643 families or 2,453 persons affected; houses – 16 (four totally and 12 partially damaged)
* Calinog – 52 families or 149 persons affected; rice – 17 hectares; corn – 25 hectares; high value crops – seven hectares; poultry/fowls – 272 heads
* Bingawan – 12 families or 48 persons affected; houses – eight (four totally and four partially damaged)
* Pototan – 1,197 families or 5,846 persons affected; houses – nine (all partially damaged); rice – P859,950; corn – P638,000; high value crops – P1,169,000
4th District
* Dumangas – 1,679 families or 6,490 persons affected; no report yet on agricultural damage
* Dingle – 1,294 families or 6,470 persons affected; rice – P1,787,692
* San Enrique – 616 families or 1,484 persons affected; no report yet on agricultural damage
* Passi City – 3,774 families or 15,496 persons affected; houses – five (two totally and three partially damaged); rice – P231,250; corn – P1,672,000; high-value crops – P455,000; livestock – P105,000; poultry – P176,040
* Dueñas – 195 families or 975 persons affected
* Barotac Nuevo – 311 families or 1,293 persons affected; no report yet on agricultural damage.
Bionat said the PDRRMO is still talking with Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. on the provincial government’s assistance to affected farmers but assured that concerned local government units (LGUs) have been assisting already.
He added that it is the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) that will validate reports on affected houses./PN
