ROXAS City – The provincial government of Capiz pushed anew for strict compliance with the Department of Health’s Minimum Public Health Standards (MPHS) amid increasing cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Gov. Fredenil Castro, in a video message, stressed the need for wearing facemasks in crowded places, washing hands with soap and water, and maintaining social distancing as mitigating measures against the spread of the viral infection.

“Avoid touching your mouth, eyes and nose with dirty hands, especially those who have remained unvaccinated until now,” said Castro.

He added that strict compliance with the MPHS will not lead to quarantines and lockdowns, which have greatly affected economic activities.

Based on the Provincial Health Office (PHO) data, 534,661 out of the 583,345 target population for COVID-19 vaccination in the province are fully vaccinated or have received their second dose series as of May 1.

“Get vaccinated so that you will be protected from critical implications and hospitalization due to COVID-19,” he stressed.

The province has accumulated a total of 13,698 COVID-19 confirmed cases, composed of 31 active cases, 13,086 recoveries and 581 deaths based on PHO data as of May 9. (PIA Capiz)/PN
