BACOLOD City – Eight local government units (LGUs) in Negros Occidental have surpassed their targets for the Department of Health’s (DOH) “Chikiting Ligtas” supplemental immunization program.
A total of 197,753 or 87.94 percent of the province’s children have already been vaccinated against measles, rubella and polio, said Provincial Health Officer (PHO) Dr. Girlie Pinonggan.
As of this writing, only 15,708 children remain unvaccinated in the province.
The town of Murcia topped the list with a 105.63 percent accomplishment, followed by the previous No. 1 Himamaylan City (105.16 percent) and Silay City (101.93 percent), PHO data showed.
Other LGUs with high accomplishment rate are Candoni (95.57 percent), La Castellana (95.88 percent), Moises Padilla (95.52 percent), Kabankalan City (97.42 percent), and Talisay City (99.21 percent).
Earlier, Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson expressed elation over the province’s performance in the vaccination drive.
He also lauded the health workers for their hard work in convincing parents to have their kids vaccinated against measles, rubella and polio./PN
