ILOILO City – Gametime Sports’ 14-and-under girls volleyball will be expanded to a three-day regional tournament later this month at the Santa Clarita International School Gymnasium here.
According to Gametime Sports founder Rodolfo Go Villaruz, six volleyball squads from Iloilo City, Bacolod City, Capiz and Guimaras have accepted the invitation to compete in the event slated from June 23 to 25.
St. John’s Institute Baby Falcons will be sending in two squads to represent Bacolod City, while Iloilo City is to be represented by Iloilo City Sports Academy and A&T Volleyball Club- San Rafael.
Guimaras, on the other hand, is set to send a selection of their young volleyball standouts, while the Pontevedra Fire Antz Jr. is set to carry the name of Capiz in the pocket tournament.
“This is an exciting tournament as young volleyball standouts from Bacolod, Iloilo, Capiz and Guimaras will be able to test their abilities among each other,” Villaruz told Panay News on Thursday.
This upcoming tournament came after Gametime Sports launched the 14-Under Girls Volleyball League late last month, which was participated by Iloilo City-based volleyball teams.
Team Iloilo City Sports Academy, which was formed with the help of Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Trenas, emerged as the champion after defeating A &T Volleyball Club- San Rafael in the finals.
Team ICSA setter Jiuliane Marynz Castaneda was among the standout in the tournament after being given special award for recording 25 straight excellent sets in a group stage game.
“We are doing this kind of volleyball tournament to help the young players develop their game and confidence,” Villaruz said. “There are a lot of talents here in Western Visayas, we just need to give them an avenue to showcase it.”
Villaruz said that, after the regional tournament, Gametime Sports is planning another event where they will invite volleyball teams from other regions for the National Invitational slated this August./PN
