CAPIZ – The Provincial Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) recommended placing Capiz under a state of calamity due to African Swine Fever (ASF).
Of the 473 barangays in the province, 242 were hit by ASF, data from the Office of the Provincial Veterinarian showed.
Data further showed around 3,983 hog farmers were affected by the hog disease.
It was raised during an emergency meeting on June 7 presided over by Gov. Fredenil Castro, upon the recommendation of PDRRMO action officer Atty. Shiela Artillero.
With this, Castro directed the PDRRMC to get the concurrence of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Capiz.
Capiz is comprised of 16 municipalities and one component city, Roxas.
According to Provincial Veterinarian Dr. Leonel Abordo, Jamindan is the only municipality left with no confirmed cases of ASF.
The latest towns affected by the hog disease were Pontevedra, Panitan, Ivisan and Dao./PN
