ILOILO City – Delegates from Western Visayas are now ready for the Palarong Pambansa 2023 Pre-National Qualifying Event in Cebu City from June 14 to 17.
Yesterday morning, more than 300 delegates, including the technical working group, athletes, and coaches from the region, arrived at Talamban Elementary School, which served as their billeting area.
Department of Education (DepEd) Region 6 director Ramir B. Uytico and other DepEd 6 officials are expected to join the region’s delegates in Cebu City.
Hernani Escullar Jr., information officer of DepEd-6, said sports teams such as baseball, basketball, football, sepak takraw, volleyball, futsal, and basketball 3×3 must compete in the pre-national qualifying event to qualify for the Palarong Pambansa in Marikina City on July 29 to Aug. 5 this year.
“To limit the number of delegates and shorten the number of days in the upcoming Palaro,” said Escullar in an interview with Panay News after being asked about the purpose of a pre-nationals.
The top two regional delegations in every team sports event will qualify for the national games.
Delegations will be clustered into four groups based on their geographical location.
Cluster 3 is composed of Region 6 (Western Visayas), Region 7 (Central Visayas), Region 8 (Eastern Visayas), and Region 9 (Zamboanga Peninsula).
Cluster 1 is comprised of the Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, and Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR); Cluster 2 is CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, NCR, and Bicol Region; and Cluster 4 is Northern Mindanao, Davao, SOCCKSARGEN, CARAGA, and BARMM.
