ILOILO – The Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) assured the media in Western Visayas of protection from threats in line with their duty.
“Ang mandu sang aton regional director (Brigadier General Sidney Villaflor) is to check gid para ma-assist ang mga media partners,” said PRO-6 public information officer (PIO) Police Major Mary Grace Borio yesterday.
She said media members with threats should immediately report to the nearest police station for immediate response.
“Una naton nga ginhimu is tanan nga PIOs kag chiefs of police sa every municipality ginpadagdagan order as focal officers on media security,” Borio said.
She added: “Hatagan sang nagakaigu nga protection. Report lang sa nearest police station so that we can take action. Once ma-report sa police chief, the intelligence division will assess sa kabug-aton sang pamahog kag ano ma-offer nga security.”
The media forum was in response to the call of Philippine National Police chief General Benjamin Acorda Jr. ordering down units to coordinate with the media.
A radio broadcaster was gunned down in Oriental Mindoro on May 31.
The 50-year-old Cresenciano Bunduquin, a broadcaster for DWXR Kalahi Radio 101.7 and MUX Online, was killed by motorcycle-riding assailants at 4 a.m. in Barangay Isabel, Calapan City.
Bunduquin was shot on the chest by two gunmen as he was opening up his store.
One of the assailants died after Bunduquin’s son hit the gunmen with his vehicle as they fled the scene.
Bunduquin was the third journalist killed since President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. took office in June 2023. His death came less than a year after the killing of broadcaster Rey Blanco in Oriental Mindoro and the killing of popular radio personality Percy Lapid in Metro Manila./PN
