CEBU City — Western Visayas elementary boys football team salvaged a 1-1 draw against Central Visayas at the start of the Cluster 3 National Pre-Palarong Pambansa Qualifying Meet on Thursday.
Drystan Alexandrae Delgado-Torres was the lone goal scorer for the Barotac Nuevo Central Elementary School which represented Region 6 with his close range shot late in the first half.
Prior to that, Central Visayas drew first blood. The Western Visayas goal keeper, Finley Nate Bedia, lost his balance on the slippery field of the Don Bosco Technical College here.
Western Visayas secondary girls volleyball team had a winning start after a 25-9, 25-11, 25-6 straight set win over Region 9-Zamboanga at the University of Southern Philippines Gymnasium here.
Rhose Vianne Almendralejo stood out on the offensive end as the Bacolod Tay Tung High School represented WV as they moved closer to a championship spot.
WV’s elementary girls volleyball, also represented by Bacolod Tay Tung High School, also had a fiery start as they cruised to a 25-14, 25-16 straight set win over Region 9.
Meanwhile, Western Visayas, represented by Hua Siong College of Iloilo, survived a tough challenge from Eastern Visayas for an 87-76 victory Sacred Heart-Ateneo de Cebu gymnasium in Cebu City.
The Region 6 elementary cagers, composed of players from Bacolod Tay Tung High School, dominated Eastern Visayas from start to finish to score a 98-49 rout.
In elementary boys sepak takraw, Western Visayas, represented by Binangkilan Elementary School, bagged their first win after a 21-10, 21-6 win over Region 7.
In the secondary boys sepak takraw, Santa Barbara National Comprehensive High School, representing Region 6, executed early dominance to overpower Region 7 Abellana National School, 2-0.
In the secondary softball, Western Visayas, represented by Ramon Torres National High School, scored a 23-0 domination over Zamboanga Peninsula from Manokan National High School.
The top two teams from each will qualify to the Palarong Pambansa, which will be held later this year in Marikina City./PN
