Mistaken identity? Armed men ‘attack’ house in Mandurriao

ILOILO – A house in Barangay Bakhaw, Mandurriao district was allegedly targeted by approximately 10 armed men.

Melba Jeminillo and her family were in their house when the incident happened around 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 20.

“Nakibot lang gid kami primero nga may nagapamulpog, tapos sang ulihi nabatian na gid namon nga daw todo-todo na. Siling sang bana ko nga buksan bala, siling ko indi kay damo sila. According man sa tupad balay namon kay siya ang galingling mga 10 gid ka bilog,: said Jeminillo.

They were unable to identify the armed men who were wearing bonnets.

“Ginbuka nila to [jalousy window] ka dos-por-dos. Sang ulihi naghambal iya upod nga ‘tiruhon ta ni, sir.’ Nagsinggit ako nga nagahibi nga ‘sir, ano sala namon sa inyo man ngaa tiruhon niyo kami?’ Hambal niya ano apelyido mo, hambal ko Jeminillo. Hambal ya dayon ‘malakat na lang ta kay zero man ta di gali,’” Jeminillo added.

Barangay kagawad Eden Lopez said she received a call that night saying that there was a commotion.

“Nagkadto ko didto, daw tawhay naman sang time nga to didto sa ila area. Madulom gawa so wala man ako may nakita,” said Lopez.

Meanwhile, Barangay Captain Joel Alvarado said the armed men were allegedly looking for someone else and they may have attacked the wrong house.

“Suno sa aton diri information nga nabaton, may ginapangita sila nga persona tapos sang na-identify nila nga indi man amo na nga mga tawo nag-pullout sila. Basi may ara gid sila ya sang ginapangita, said Alvarado.

The barangay captain added the house the Jeminillo family occupied was owned by an alias “Nognog” who had a record with the Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Council (BADAC).

“Ina si Melba ya halin sa katigulangan ari na di, ang iya bana na taxi driver. Ang balay nila daw ginbakal lang kay alyas Nognog nga [BADAC-listed], pero subong wala na siya diri sa Bakhaw,” Alvarado added.

The police investigation was ongoing as of this writing./PN
