ILOILO City – The family of one of the two casualties in a freak accident involving a water tanker in Barangay Baldoza, La Pazdistrict accident last week is demanding justice.
“Last ngaatubangaysa city hall nagapangayoangpamilya sang hustisya,” saidMayor Jerry P. Treñas.
The city government initially extended assistance to the bereaved families, particularly for the burial expenses.
Oliver Dela Cruz, 22, of Zone III, Barangay Baldoza, and 14-year-old JeeAnCaburog from Zone I, Barangay Baldoza were both declared “dead upon arrival” in a hospital around 6 p.m. on June 11.
Treñassaid the city government also offered P50,000in financial assistance.
But the Caburog family, in particular, is seeking justice. They are reportedly filing a case against the driver of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) who maneuvered the crashed tanker to secure it but lost control of the vehicle and hit bystanders.
“The city government is willing to give support. The accident happened in the course of a rescue operation, it was pure accident,” said Treñas.
The city mayor added he will respect the decision of the family if they want to file a complaint.
The father of Caburog sought the help of Sen.RaffyTulfo who plans to conduct a hearing regarding the incident./PN
