ANTIQUE – A magnitude 4.4 earthquake of tectonic origin woke residents of Antique around 4:32 a.m. yesterday, June 27.
The earthquake’s epicenter was in Anini-y town, according to the Department of Science and Technology — Philippine Institute Of Volcanology and Seismology (DOST-PHIVOLCS).
Tectonic earthquakes, according to the DOST-PHIVOLCS, are produced by sudden movement along faults and plate boundaries.
Intensity II was felt in Anini-y and Intensity I in Jordan, Guimaras and Culasi, Antique.
Around 4:35 a.m., a magnitude 2.5 shake was again felt in Anini-y, followed by a magnitude 2.6 around 4:37 a.m.
Tibiao town also felt a magnitude 2.9 around 5:10 a.m.
Minor tremors were also felt in Southern Iloilo and Bacolod City, Negros Occidental.
