MANILA – San Beda University Lady Red Spikers continued its roster overhaul after securing the commitment of three transferees, including Negrense volleybelle Reyann Cañete.

Cañete, a native of Sagay City in Negros Occidental, said she decided to transfer to the Lady Red Spikers from San Sebastian College-Recoletos Lady Stags as she sees herself improving her game further with San Beda.

“Aside from the opportunity to study in a prestigious school like San Beda, but I see myself growing as a volleyball player under the guidance of the Lady Red Spikers coaching staff,” Cañete told Panay News on Thursday.

“I will bring to San Beda my experience and help the team to be more mature inside and outside the court. We are a young and talented team, hopefully I can help the team to improve and to be a contender especially in the NCAA,” she added.

Cañete, a former standout of Eusebio Lopez Memorial Integrated School, was a Best Opposite Spiker awardee during the NCAA Season 97 women’s volleyball tournament while playing for the Lady Stags.

Cañete will join the growing list of Western Visayas-based recruits in Lady Red Spikers namely Sophie Cagalawan, Gwen Bañas, Amber Lily Biong, Jachryl Casugod, Erich Belo Bula and Gina Espina.

Aside from Cañete, two former University of the East Lady Red Warriors volleybelles in Erin Feliz Navarro and Jessica Umali have also decided to continue their collegiate years with San Beda.

According to Navarro and Umali, they decided to transfer to the Lady Red Spikers as they want to explore their game further while also contributing to the growth of the San Beda team.

“I want to improve my volleyball skills further and I see that happening with San Beda,” Navarro said. “I want to have a good relationship and memorable experiences with everyone, especially my teammates and the whole Bedan community.”

“As a dedicated athlete, I am confident in my ability to bring a strong work ethic and positive attitude to the team. My goal is to contribute to the team’s success by pushing myself and my teammates to be the best we can be on and off the field,” Umali added./PN
