BACOLOD City – A police officer and two civilians were shot during a commotion early Saturday morning in Sitio Libo, Barangay Alimango, Escalante City, Negros Occidental.
The wounded were 18-year-old Jeban Sayon, a resident of the said village, and 34-year-old Jay-r Garganera of Toboso town. They were hit on the side and the left leg, respectively.
Police Master Sergeant Teofesto Aburido of the city police’s intelligence unit and resident of Calatrava town, meanwhile, was shot on his abdomen.
Aburido was deployed to the village as part of the fiesta’s security, according to Police Major John Ganzon, chief of police of Escalante City.
At around 2:20 a.m., a fight erupted between two groups.
As Aburido and another police officer tried to break up the fight, 40-year-old Romualdo Abarido Jr., opened fire.
Abarido, a Citizen Armed Forces Geographical Unit member, was arrested.
The suspect is facing three counts of frustrated homicide charges and is currently detained at the Escalante City police station./PN
