ILOILO – The series of theft and assault incidents targeting senior citizens in the province were isolated cases, according to the Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO).
IPPO spokesperson Police Major Rolando Araño, in an interview with RMN Iloilo, said there were no indications that an organized group was behind these incidents.
The most recent was when a burglar, believed to be around 20 to 23 years old, attempted to break into the home of a senior citizen in Oton town around 12 midnight on June 28.
On June 24, a 66-year-old retired seafarer was killed by unidentified burglars in Ajuy town. The police said the victim had some items missing.
In the town of Balasan on May 20, a senior citizen lawyer and his retired teacher wife sustained injuries after burglars hit their heads with a hammer.
Meanwhile, in San Dionisio town, a senior citizen couple was stabbed by burglars.
In these four incidents, no suspects have been arrested or charged by the police. The IPPO said the investigation is still ongoing, but they already have persons of interest./PN
