GUIMARAS – The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in Guimaras recently conducted two back-to-back orientation and meeting sessions to reactivate the Municipal Price Coordinating Councils (MPCC) of Nueva Valencia and Sibunag towns.
The DTI Guimaras Consumer Protection team organized the orientation sessions to provide an overview of the roles, functions and key provisions of Republic Act 7581, or the Price Act, to the MPCC members.
Reactivating the MPCC aims to enhance consumer welfare by actively involving the locality in consumer protection activities.
“We are reinforcing our commitment to safeguarding consumer rights and interests,” said DTI Guimaras officer-in-charge provincial director Mutya Eusores.
In Sibunag, a reconstitution of the MPCC members will be carried out, while a new Executive Order was issued to establish the council in Nueva Valencia under the leadership of the current local chief executive.
It was also agreed that regular meetings would be held to address emerging issues and concerns to ensure effective collaboration between the MPCCs and the local government in resolving consumer-related matters. (With a report from the Department of Trade and Industry-Guimaras)/PN
