ILOILO City – Mayor Jerry Treñas is set to recall his executive order (EO) declaring Bacolod City’s Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran persona non grata.
Treñas decided to take the move following the appeal made by Bacolod City’s Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez and despite not receiving any apology from Familiaran.
“Upon the request of Mayor Albee, I will recall the executive order declaring Vice Mayor Familiaran persona non grata in Iloilo City,” Treñas said. “Para na lang kay Mayor Albee.”
As of this writing, Treñas was drafting a new executive order revoking the previous one.
Asked for his reaction, Familiaran simply replied, “deus vult”, Latin for “God’s will.”
The persona non grata EO against Familiaran stemmed from the move of the Bacolod city government’s Department of Social Services and Development (DSSD) to supposedly send 80 mendicant Badjaos back to Mindanao but they ended up tin Iloilo City instead via the Dumangas port in Dumangas, Iloilo.
Treñas got irked for the lack of proper coordination and stated that he won’t allow Iloilo City to be a “dumping” ground for Badjaos.
Harsh words were exchanged between the two officials.
The Iloilo City Government, in coordination with the Department of Social Welfare and Development Region 6 was able to round up and assisted 24 Bandjao families composed of 72 individuals and sent them back to Zamboanga via Bacolod City./PN
