ILOILO City – A 31-year-old man was shot dead by motorcycle-riding gunmen in front of the R.S. Layson compound in Barangay North Fundidor, Molo district around 3:30 a.m. yesterday.
Alejandro “Niño” Panes Jr., a waiter at a restobar in Mandurriao district and a resident of Zone 3, Barangay Dulunan, Arevalo district sustained a gunshot wound on his back; the bullet exited at his abdomen.
A tricycle driver brought him to the Iloilo Doctors’ Hospital. He died while being treated.
According to Police Staff Sergeant Mark John Suganob, investigator of the Molo police station, the victim was on his way home from work driving his motorcycle when he was shot by gun men tailing him.
“Bali natabu ni ang insidente, based sa aton mga witnesses nga ari diri, mga alas-tres sa kaagahon. According ni sa iya tatay, since ang biktima nagatrabaho sa MO2, tagpululi niya gid man mga alas-tres. Halin ‘ni siya sa trabaho sakay sa iya motorsiklo,” said Suganob.
He added: “Ang biktima conscious sang gindala sa hospital. Bag-o ini ginbawian sang kabuhi nakahambal pa siya didto sa parte Arevalo siya natiruhan galing samtang ga-conduct kita sang investigation nadiskubre naton nga diri sa North Fundidor ang insidente natabu.”
Officers of the Molo police station recovered a deformed slug of unknown revolver from the crime scene.
Meanwhile, a closed-circuit television camera (CCTV) footage obtained by the police showed the victim being followed by the suspects. Two gunshots were heard in Barangay North Fundidor, Molo area.
Police further said a car parked in front of the R.S. Layson compound was hit by the gunmen while shooting the victim, resulting to a damaged windshield.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Lindley T. Barrientos, officer-in-charge (OIC) Deputy City Director for Administration of the Iloilo City Police Office, told Panay News they have instructed the OIC of the Molo police station to thoroughly investigate the incident.
“Ginasekyar naman sang kapulisan ang sirkumstansya bahin sa personal kag trabaho sang biktima. Nagabulig naman ang kapulisan sang Mandurriao police station, Arevalo police station kag ang CIU (City Intelligence Unit) nga naga-imbestiga man para matukoy ang mga perpetrators,” said Barrientos./PN
